Bill sent by the Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Telephone Co to Mrs. J. H. Jones, Pinelands resort: $3.20 for 5 calls in November and December.

Pinelands Lodge was a Muskoka resort, located on the south end of Lake Joseph, for around 100 years, before it was demolished in 2004.  The resort was accessible via steamboat from Gravenhurst, connecting with the Grand Trunk Railway, making it a popular spot for Toronto vacationers.

Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Telephone Co. was founded 1907 by John Thomson of Bracebridge, along with Peter Hutchison and Peter A. Smith to provide local telephone service to communities across Muskoka, including Bracebridge, Port Carling, and Bala.

Early subscribers included hotels, merchants, blacksmiths, and livery stables—reflecting the region’s mix of tourism and local trade. Long-distance calls were routed through the Bell system, with limited reach until copper lines improved in the 1920s.
