Set of three very early Pre-Confederation photos from Newfoundland/Labrador taken during winter season. Two are identified as February 1901, other has no text.

RARE!

All are 8 x 14 cm. Underexposed.

#1 Man posing on a toboggan

Man lying on a toboggan at the bottom of a hill.  Directly behind him a boy, a dog, and group of men, toboggans. In background, at a distance can see people at the top of the toboggan run.

Some glue remnants on back where mounted in album. Paper toned.

#2 Man and girl posing with dog sled

Man in fur coat along with young girl standing with dogs, who are tied to a dog sled. In background long stone wall, some stone buildings, leading down to harbour (?)

On back written in French:

Traineau d’equimaux du Labrador”
 “Labrador Eskimo sleigh"

Some glue remnants on back where mounted in album. Paper toned, some bands of darker toning.

#3 Women, children, dogsled driver and sled

Group of ladies dressed for winter, same man from photo #2, standing with dogs and their  sled. In background long stone wall as above. The dogsled driver is in picture. He seems to be dressed in Hudson Bay Company clothes(?).

On back written in French:

Scène d’hiver en voiture d’esquimaux au mois de Février 1901(?)
“Winter scene in Eskimo vehicle, month of February 1901(?)"

(I believe the last digit in the date is a ‘1’.)

Some glue remnants on back where mounted in album. Paper toned.
