The Christian Endeavor movement began in Portland, Maine, in 1881, founded by Rev. Francis Edward Clark as an interdenominational youth organization promoting Christian commitment and active participation in church life .
The movement spread rapidly across the United States, the British Empire, and internationally, including Canada, where provincial unions—such as the Ontario Christian Endeavor Union—were formed to coordinate local societies, organize conventions, and promote youth discipleship.
The Canadian Christian Endeavour Union, headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario, functioned as the national body for Canada .
