WW1 Canada photo postcard troops marching Gravenhurst Ontario c. 1917

Nice image of Canadian troops of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.) marching down a street in Gravenhurst Ontario. It may the 122nd Battalion that recruited in the Muskoka region.

Undated, but likely late winter 1916 or 1917.

This battalion embarked from the port of Halifax, Nova Scotia on three ships. The first two ships, the "Missanabie" & the "Tunisan" left the port on May 21st. 1917 with 2 officers and 50 O.R.(Detail) each. The third ship. the "Olympic" with 122nd Battalion, left on June 2. 1917

The 122nd Overseas Battalion, CEF was a unit in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Based in Huntsville, Ontario & Bracebridge, Ontario the unit began recruiting in late 1915 in the Muskoka district. After sailing to England in June 1917, the battalion was absorbed into the on June 9, 1917. The 122nd Battalion, CEF had one Officer Commanding: Lieut-Col. D. M. Grant.
