The First Regiment Infantry of the National Guard of Pennsylvania — the historic “Dandy First,” one of the oldest military units in the United States. In 1889, this regiment was heavily involved in statewide National Guard duties, including the response to the Johnstown Flood.
Bailey, Banks & Biddle was Philadelphia’s premier maker of U.S. military medals, insignia, and presentation silver. Founded in 1832, the firm became one of America’s most important jewelers and the official designer/manufacturer of many U.S. military decorations, state seals, and ceremonial pieces.
