Set of three postcards with early images of two Chicago ballparks: the 2nd West side Parl (Cubs. prior to Wrigley) and Comiskey Park (White Sox).
Baseball Game, west side Ball Grounds, Chicago (1909)
This is the 2nd West Side Park which the Cubs used prior to Wrigley Field. It was home to the Cubs til 1915, the Chicago Orphans (1898-1901), Chicago Colts (1890's) and the White Stockings (1885-1889).
The latter of the two parks, where the franchise played for nearly a quarter century, was the home of the first two world champion Cubs teams (1907 and 1908), the team that posted the best winning percentage in Major League Baseball history and won the most games in National League history (1906), the only cross-town World Series in Chicago (1906), and the immortalized Tinker to Evers to Chance double-play combo. Both ballparks were what are now called "wooden" ballparks.
Bounded by Taylor, Wood, Polk and Lincoln (now Wolcott) Streets.
