The camp was about 64 km southwest of London. Camp Witley was one of three facilities in the Aldershot Command area established by the Canadian Army; the others being Bordon and Bramshott.

Labeled LL ‘THE CAMP’.

On back stamped ‘ORDERLY ROOM 10th Can. Res. Battn DEC 8 1917 CANADIAN EXP FOR—’

Written at top “Canadian soldier letter” and addressed to France. Short message on front.

10th Canadian Reserve Battalion (Quebec)

  • Organized at Shoreham on 4 January 1917 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel DesRosiers.
  • Formed by absorbing 69th and 163rd Battalions. Absorbed 178th Battalion on 15 March 1917 and 258th Battalion on 17 October 1917.
  • Reinforced 22nd and 150th Battalions; the latter was absorbed in February 1918 after the disbandment of the 5th Division.
  • Absorbed by 20th Canadian Reserve Battalion on 28 March 1918 but re-constituted at Bramshott on 8 April 1918. Moved to Ripon on 9 February 1919
