The Cheerio Club for children was begun in 1929 by CKGW radio station in Toronto, Ontario. The station began broadcasting March 5, 1928 and was owned by a local distillery, Gooderham and Worts Ltd. The goal of the station was not to advertise its own product, but to provide for goodwill. The children’s Cheerio Club not only built a large fan base by providing quality programming, badges, and certificates, but also set up funds for assisting sick children.
