A British cavalryman in the elite 2nd Troop of Life Guards acknowledges payment for his expenses.

Nice vignette at top with lion and unicorn. Inside central coat of arms ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense’. Scroll at bottom with royal motto ‘Dieu et Mon Droit’.

Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense’ = the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter.
Dieu et Mon Droit’ = the motto of the Monarch of the United Kingdom outside Scotland.

 

I Do acknowledge to have received from Gen’l Lord Robert Bertie by the hands of Colonel Buckley the sum of One Hundred Pounds in full of all Demands, as well on Account of Pay...Stoppages for Horses...Horses Forage…for the time I served in the Second Troop of HIS MAJESTY’S Life Guards commanded by the said Lord Robert Bertie. I do hereby release, acquit and discharge the said Lord Robert Bertie & all others ___ ___

General Lord Robert Bertie (1721 – 1782) was a senior British Army officer and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1751 to 1782.

Bertie joined the Coldstream Guards as an ensign in 1737 and ... and general in 1777.

He was Regimental Colonel of the 7th Regiment of Foot from 1754 to 1776, and of the 2nd Troop of Horse Guards from 1776 to 1782

Bertie was a Lord of the Bedchamber to the Prince of Wales, later King George III, from 1751 until his death. He sat in Parliament for Whitchurch from 1751 to 1754 and for Boston from 1754 to 1782.
